INTERNATIONAL SCIENTISTS MEET AT FALLING WALLS LAB MONGOLIA'21 + ENGAGEx FORUM
04 October 2021
The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia’21+ENGAGEx forum for the next generation of early-career innovators, researchers, creators, visionaries and professionals was successfully organized on October 1 and 2, 2021 as a hybrid-online event, to promote exceptional ideas and connect promising scientists and entrepreneurs from all fields on a global label and to inspire and connect creative individuals who engage communities and actively involve the public in science to impact both sides all around of the world.
The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia’21 took place for the second time, followed by a Lab-Engage-Collider program for an intensive exchange on the first day of the forum. Also the first three best participants, including a national winner of the lab, were awarded.
The members of the jury evaluated each presentation of the finalists according to criteria such as the breakthrough factor, relevance and potential impact of the presented work as well as the structure and performance. The three best presenters were named the winners of the Falling Walls Lab Mongolia’21 and their assessments were pretty close together. The third place received Mr. Ammar Abbas for “Breaking the Wall of Latent Knowledge Discovery Through AI”, the second place Mr. Batmunkh Myagmarjav for the “Breaking the Wall of Traditional Functional Drinks”. Ms. Oyungerel Munkhbat won first place for the “Breaking the Wall of Indoor Air Pollution” and became a national winner of this year. A national winner will represent Mongolia and take part in the global Falling Walls Finale between 7th and 9th of November in Berlin and compete with more than 100 international national winners. All International Lab finalists are eligible to attend the Falling Walls Science Summit as an audience, and the international winner will receive a cash prize.
Five international experts from the Falling Walls Engage Community, a representative of the International Association of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES), Falling Walls Lab Mongolia'19 Lab and ENGAGEx Aumni, as well as Mongolian and international professionals, lecturers and researchers were invited to the ENGAGEx workshop for an intensive exchange of experiences and diverse open discussions for science communication and science engagement.
On the second day of the open forum, Falling Walls ENGAGEx featured science engagers from Ireland, India, Egypt, Finland, Germany and Mongolia. They discussed a wide range of issues, including ways to promote young generation’s interests to natural science and engineering, involvement of women engineering in internalional level and in the role of regular journals in the field of technology, natural science and information dissemination. The most interesting part of the event was the poetry section. The two science poets from India and three Mongolian young poets from the Night Poetry Network and NUM presented their new poems on the topics discussed during the two days of the forum.
The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia'21 + ENGAGEx hybrid-online event was organized by the Arts & Media Project Management & Consulting NGO (AMPMC) in cooperation with the German-Mongolian Institute for Resource and Technology (GMIT) and the National University of Mongolia (NUM), supported by the Falling Walls Foundation, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mongolia, the Cultural Envoy of Mongolia to the Federal Republic of Germany, Mrs. Oyuntuya Oyunjargal, the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES) and the Night Poetry.

STATEMENTS OF HONOURED GUESTS
H.E. Jörn Rosenberg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mongolia
The mission of Falling Walls – taking inspiration of the Fall of the Berlin Wall – is to connect science, business and society to facilitate exchange and creative ideas across disciplines to tackle the most pressing challenges of our time. Originating in Germany, it is a joint endeavor of researchers, entrepreneurs, decision-makers, artists, thinkers, and movers worldwide to find the next breakthroughs for our societies. Nobody can solve these big issues alone. We are therefore delighted about the great dedication and commitment of the Falling Walls partners and participants in Mongolia. There were many exciting ideas presented today, and we wish the Mongolian competitors every success at the big stage of the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin!
Professor Jung Sun Kim, INWES President 2021-2023
INWES is happy to support the Falling Walls Lab Mongolia’21 Forum. INWES strongly encourages the participation of women and girls in STEM on a global level to showcase their innovative ideas that can create an impact and lead to making a better future worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Battsengel Baatar, Rector of GMIT:
The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia’21+ENGAGEx aims to introduce new scientific initiatives and outreach projects that break the wall between science and society. It disseminates scientific discoveries and innovations not only to the public but also to entrepreneurs and investors to promote successful scientific cooperation and increase the understanding and value of science engagement.
As a host institution, German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology, we organized in 2019 in cooperation with Arts & Media Project Management & Consulting NGO, the Falling Walls Lab platform for early-career researchers, entrepreneurs, and professionals. The national winner, the labster of Mongolia, had a chance to participate in the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin and presented his scientific work in the global Falling Walls Lab Finale, a world-class pitch competition among the labsters worldwide.
Dr. Batkhuu Nyam-Osor, Vice-President for Research and Cooperation, NUM
The National University of Mongolia is pleased to co-host this year’s Falling Walls Lab Forum and ENGAGEx activation workshop in Mongolia to provide a great opportunity for Mongolian and international young scientists to share experiences. We hope it would promote the research partnership more extensively in the future.
NUM is the country’s first and the most comprehensive university and is globalizing university that pursues freedom of exchange of people, knowledge and information and it promotes equal and mutual beneficial international cooperation. It is realizing its social responsibility and be knowledge leader in terms of disseminating scientific knowledge, achievements and discoveries in the society using it for the benefit of the society, conducting research on the wide range of social, economic, technological and environmental problems faced to the society making a contribution to achievement of the Global Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
Oyuntuya Oyunjargal, Cultural Envoy of Mongolia and Founder of AMPMC NGO
Falling Walls is an international platform that has a significant impact on the implementation of advanced science and innovation initiatives that are socially and economically significant and bring tangible results. During the event, scientists presented their most innovative ideas and research projects, while entrepreneurs, investors and decision makers take the key steps to bring them into society.
We have been continuously trying to organize Falling Walls event platforms in Mongolia since 2019, because they bring real results and give Mongolian scientists and academics direct access to a global interdisciplinary network. The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia, in conjunction with the ENGAGEx workshop, offered Labsters and young Mongolian scientists the opportunity to learn from international experts in the field of science communication and to exchange experiences on how they can bring their research projects to the target groups.
The Falling Walls Lab Mongolia, in conjunction with the ENGAGEx activation workshop provided this year an opportunity for Labsters, Alumni and participating Mongolian emerging scientists to learn from international engagers in the field of scientific communication and exchange experiences on how to reach the target and significant groups of their research projects.Neuer TextNeuer Text
